Gaviota wind caves

I have been wanting to hike to the Gaviota wind  caves for awhile now and I made a date with Clint to go on my day off.  We followed a paved road for about a half mile, then veered off on a narrow dirt path.  Right away Clint sees a rattlesnake and gets a little spooked for the rest of the hike, I would have been more afraid of the wildcats they warned us of at the beginning of the hike.
The climb is a little steep in places, it's about a 600 foot elevation gain, that part was okay, it was the heat that killed me!  Normally the days are a little cool on the coast and Gaviota is known to be a little windy, but today, NO SUCH LUCK!  Clint checked the temperature and it was 90 degress.
I was happy to reach the cool, shaded caves, we rested on the cool rocks and took lots of pictures before heading back.  A great day, the caves were pretty awesome, next time we'll go in the winter.  Maybe for a sunset hike.

Inside the caves.
Cryptic caves.

Enjoying the view!

I just found this new group thanks to Deanna at Snippets from Springdale,  looks like fun!  This has a watercolor action run on it and a scratched texture added.  Thanks Deanna.

through the window

well, here is the last item on the scavenger hunt for beyond layers, I'm just  5 days late in posting this, but hey, better late then never.  This was taken in my dining room looking out to the backyard patio.  I love the light that is coming in.

lit by candle light

This weeks theme in the Macro Mondays group was "lit by candle light" and we were to take a photo using candles as our main source of light to give the image a warm and diffused glow.  One of the glass votives I used was a burgundy color which produced this stunning rich red color.

So saturday Ted decided to hang a light fixture for my mom and dad over their dining room table so my dad could seed while he eats, they have lived in this house now for a year and were finally getting around to doing this... dad is happy!  Anyway, while they were installing light fixtures i decided to read the first of the trilogy tales, Fifty Shades of Grey.  A little erotic read for the end of summer.

Today's challenge was to photograph your kitchen faucet, I took this while doing the dishes tonight, loved how the water was splashing about... almost looks like diamonds!   And the second challenge below was to photograph...

Beyond Layers Day two-
pieces of me scavenger hunt, My breakfast... before work is usually coffee and toast, but not just any toast, I really like sourdough... I am a creature of habit!  For the mailbox  I didn't have a lot of time before work to get a creative shot so I decided to play in photoshop and make it a pop art piece.

pieces of me Day one

I'm playing along with Kim Klassen in her beyond layers class.  Her challenge for us this week will be a pieces of me scavenger hunt of sorts.  Two items everyday Monday through Friday of things about me or around me... first item is FAVORITE CHAIR.  this worn, red velvet chair actually belongs to my daughter, I'll give it back to her.... one day?  It's great for pictures and I love the color.  The second item is ON YOUR FEET.  The first thing I do when I get home from work is take off my shoes and put on my flip flops, you can usually find these on my feet, and my toe ring, and pink nail polish!

Humpback Whales in Avila Bay

A lucky photographer and these humpback whales were featured on the morning news, I believe it was Good Morning America?  We were there on Saturday also... what an awesome site it was!  Can you believe how close some of these people were... CRAZY!  but I bet they got some awesome pictures!

I don't like spiders and snakes...

but I sure had a great day photographing them!  just a few of the wild things i saw that day in Los Osos with Dennis Sheridan and his Critters.

Hello

Thanks to the Santa Maria Camera Club and Dennis Sheridan, the owner of Critters and Things in Los Osos, I had to opportunity to photograph these awesome red eye tree frogs that come from the rain forests of Costa Rica.  They are nocturnal, thats why their eyes are red, the color helps them to see better at night.  This little guy was so photogenic... I think I spent more than an hour just taking his picture.
